Barto Gold is an Australian Gold explorer, developer, and producer who has been operating since 2009 and is focused on gold exploration and production in Western Australia. The operation consists of a 1.8Mtpa processing plant, three active underground mine, one active open pits, with new mines started in 2024 and planned to start in 2026 as part of the companies 5-year plan and a vision to reach 150,000oz/pa by 2028.
We are currently seeking a Alternate HST Manager to join our dynamic team at our Southern Cross Operations. Reporting to the HST Manager in the corporate office, the successful candidate is responsible for the management of the HST team on site and functionality at Southern Cross operations. You’ll provide HST leadership, support and guidance whilst ensuring implementations and compliance to group and site OHS policies, systems and frameworks to meet legislative requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and monitor health and safety policies and procedures in alignment with legal and regulatory requirements
- Investigate incidents, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions.
- Maintain detailed records and prepare compliance reports for internal and external stakeholders.
- Develop, implement, and manage a comprehensive Occupational Health and Safety management system including critical systems of work to meet statutory and legislative requirements and support the Corporate OHS policy
- Demonstrate leadership and company expectations by modelling exemplary safety behaviours and practices, to ensure your team members understand what good conduct and attention to safety looks like
- Assist the HST Manager in developing and planning HST objectives and targets and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Ensure policies, procedures, standards and supporting documentation is developed, implemented, maintained and continuously improved
- Adhere to, and ensure compliance of team with, all safety and environmental systems, policies and procedures
- Develop and implement a contractor management system that includes audit processes for critical systems of work and ongoing management strategies
- Ensure all departmental documentation complies with document control procedures and is made readily accessible across site
- Provide guidance on risks and operational controls in accordance with industry guidelines and ensure OHS mentoring and guidance is provided to all personnel
- Ensure incident investigations are sponsored by department manager, owned and lead by line management and supervision and assisted by HST
- Promote a positive safety culture which includes continuous improvement in OHS strategies, initiatives, systems and practices that will result in the optimization of results
- Develop a safety leadership model that incorporates management accountability for regular inspections, audits and pro-active identification of hazards and risks
- Ensure efficient completion of prescribed occupational health monitoring and reporting
- Manage the interface and relationship with regulatory agencies and community stakeholders and work on developing good relationships in this regard
Essential Experience will include:
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in a similar role.
- Tertiary qualification in health and safety
- Cert IV Training and Assessing – Desirable
- Auditing WHS Management systems - Desirable
- Highly Proficient in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Outlook, etc
- Detailed knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation
- Incident lead investigator
- Significant experience in safety, compliance and risk management within the heavy resources/mining industry
- Proven track record of providing accurate and effective support from the HST perspective
- Exposure to regulatory agencies and matters of compliance
- Proven experience in audit compliance and workplace injury management.
- Injury management and Workers Compensation exposure
- Current Manual Drivers Licence

Your strategic thinking coupled with your strong analytical skills and attention to detail will be critical to your success in this vital role.
