Barto Gold is an Australian Gold explorer, developer, and producer who has been operating since 2009 and is focused on gold exploration and production in Western Australia. The operation consists of a 1.8Mtpa processing plant, three active underground mines, one active open pit, with new mines started in 2024 and planned to start in 2026 as part of the companies 5-year plan and a vision to reach 150,000oz/pa by 2028.

As an Emergency Services Officer / Medic, you’ll be a crucial part of our frontline health and emergency response capability, but your impact will go far beyond that. From mentoring our ERT team to leading proactive safety initiatives, this is a role for professionals who thrive on making mining workplaces safer, smarter and stronger every day.
Reporting directly to the Alt Health, Safety and Training Manager, your responsibilities will encompass the following.
Key Responsibilities
Emergency Response and Health Services:
- Provide immediate first response and pre-hospital care, including Advanced Life Support if qualified.
- Lead and participate in emergency response efforts (medical, fire, hazmat, rescue).
- Support the Incident Management Team during critical events.
- Maintain emergency response equipment, vehicles and medical facilities to full operational readiness.
Training and Team Development:
- Train, assess and mentor Emergency Response Team (ERT) members.
- Facilitate emergency drills (e.g., fire, rescue, evacuation) and training refreshers.
- Deliver toolbox talks related to emergency procedures and site health protocols.
Safety and Compliance:
- Conduct workplace safety inspections and participate in audits and investigations as required.
- Administer drug and alcohol testing in accordance with HLTPAT005.
- Monitor site for emerging health risks including heat, fatigue and communicable disease.
- Maintain accurate records of medical treatments, controlled substances and compliance data.
Preparedness and Prevention:
- Manage fire systems, first aid kits, spill response equipment and warning systems as required.
- Collaborate with HST team on risk assessments, health campaigns and emergency planning.
- Provide health and safety support across departments, particularly during high-risk activities.
About You
We’re looking for a calm, capable ESO who is ready to lead in pressure situations and support our workforce every day.
Essential:
- Certificate IV in Health Care (or higher – Diploma in Paramedical Science preferred).
- Certificate III in Emergency Response and Rescue or Public Safety (Firefighting).
- HLTPAT005 – Collect specimens for drug and alcohol testing.
- MR or HR Manual Driver’s Licence.
- Demonstrated recent experience in a similar role.
- Strong communication, teamwork and safety leadership skills.
Highly Regarded:
- Advanced Life Support (ALS1 or ALS2).
- Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40116).
- BG4 Closed Circuit Breathing Apparatus (UG Search and Rescue).
- Mental health or wellbeing program experience.
- Familiarity with WA mining regulatory requirements and emergency planning frameworks.
