As part of this commitment, we are seeking a qualified Graduate Occupational Hygienist to join our site-based Health, Safety and Training (HST) team. Whether you’re a recent graduate or someone entering the profession later in life, this is a unique opportunity to apply your technical training in a hands-on, mining environment, contributing directly to the development and improvement of our hygiene systems.

 

About the Role

This newly created position reports to the HST Manager and supports the delivery, evaluation and continuous improvement of Barto’s Occupational Hygiene program. Our site is equipped with modern hygiene equipment and the foundations of a strong program have already been started with consultant input. Your role is to help us internalise that expertise, ensuring our hygiene program becomes self-sustaining, compliant and effective. This is a full-time position on 8 days on, 6 days off roster, BIBO from Perth.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform occupational hygiene sampling in accordance with legislative and site requirements.
  • Analyse sampling data and prepare reports and insights for internal stakeholders.
  • Support the development and refinement of the Exposure Risk Profile (ERP) and Health Management Plan.
  • Contribute to risk assessments and the implementation of practical, risk-based controls.
  • Maintain and calibrate hygiene monitoring equipment.
  • Collaborate with the hygiene technician and HST team to ensure delivery of routine and strategic hygiene work.
  • Help us reduce reliance on external consultants through the application of your technical training and knowledge.

 

What We’re Looking For

We’re open to a range of applicants, but ideally you will have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Hygiene, Environmental Health, Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • Strong theoretical knowledge of exposure standards, risk controls and monitoring techniques.
  • An interest in practical, site-based work with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and basic data handling.

 

It would be advantageous if you also have:

  • Postgraduate studies in Occupational Hygiene or HAZMAT disciplines.
  • Surface Ventilation or Noise Officer qualifications (or a willingness to obtain them).
  • Any prior exposure to mining, fieldwork or sampling (including university placements).
