Barto Gold is an Australian Gold explorer, developer, and producer who has been operating since 2009 and is focused on gold exploration and production in Western Australia. The operation consists of a 1.8Mtpa processing plant, 3 active underground mine, 1 active open pits, with new mines started in 2025 as part of the companies 5-year plan and a vision to reach 150,000oz/pa by 2028.

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Workplace Health & Safety (WHS) Manager. This role is responsible for driving a strong safety culture, ensuring compliance with WHS legislation, and overseeing injury management and return-to-work programs.  In this pivotal role, you will develop and implement comprehensive health and safety protocols, and lead training initiatives to enhance workforce skills and compliance.

 

About the role:
Reporting to the General Manager, the Health, Safety & Training Manager is responsible for the management of the HST team and functionality at Southern Cross operations to provide HST leadership, support and guidance whilst ensuring implementations and compliance to group and site OHS policies, systems and frameworks to meet legislative requirements and contribute to the health, safety and well-being of all employees and contractors.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and monitor health and safety policies and procedures in alignment with legal and regulatory requirements
  • Conduct workplace audits to ensure compliance and prepare for external inspections
  • Investigate incidents, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions.
  • Maintain detailed records and prepare compliance reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to promote safety awareness and best practices.
  • Developing, managing and ensuring that all injury management and return-to-work processes comply with relevant state and federal workers' compensation legislation.
  • Deliver and coordinate training programs tailored to workforce needs.
  • Manage and utilize the INX system to streamline incident reporting, audits, and training records while developing, training and maintaining Safety Systems used

 

Essential Experience will include:

  • Significant experience in safety, compliance and risk management within the heavy resources/mining industry
  • Injury management and Workers Compensation exposure
  • Proven track record of providing accurate and effective support from the HST perspective
  • Working knowledge and ability to interpret relevant legislation/code and its application
  • Proven ability to resolve sensitive issues
  • Exposure to regulatory agencies and matters of compliance
  • Proven experience in audit compliance and workplace injury management.
  • Strong understanding of health and safety legislation and standards.
  • Proficiency in using the INX system
  • A minimum of 6 years of experience in a similar role.

 

About you:
The successful candidate will ideally have a Tertiary qualification in OHS or related field or its equivalent and have proven experience in being a dynamic leader capable of leading change and delivering best practice in HST to the site. You will be a skilled negotiator with a decisive and creative approach to problem-solving and able to manage stakeholders both internal and external.  Your strategic thinking coupled with your strong analytical skills and attention to detail will be critical to your success in this vital role.
