Barto Gold is a privately owned Australian gold explorer, developer, and producer who has been operating since 2009 and is focused on gold exploration and production in Western Australia.
Its flagship project is located at Marvel Loch in Western Australia, operating multiple open pits and an underground mine, which services a 2.1Mt per annum name plate processing facility.
These are supported by a tenement holding of greater than 1,400km2 over the prospective Southern Cross Greenstone Belt only 4 and a half hours from Perth.
Significant project investment to date has resulted in the company being well positioned, developing its multiple >5-year mine life underground mines, in conjunction with continuing to produce from its open pit operations.
Currently the company operates two producing undergrounds with another new operation being rehabilitated and three open pits balanced against each other.
Due to this exciting growth, we are actively seeking to recruit an Open Pit - Pit Technicians to join our Southern Cross operation. This position will be 8:6 & 7:7 alternate day shift, night shift, BIBO from Perth; however, other travel options are available for professionals not residing in Perth.
About the role:
The successful applicant will join a small dynamic team of individuals from diverse and culturally different backgrounds that support each other. Reporting to the Senior Geologist – Open Pit, and supported by the Open Pit Mine Geologists’ Team, the role will encompass assisting with daily ongoing operations. These will routinely include assisting with ore mark ups, ore spotting, dig plan tracking and daily data entry. In addition, when required the role will involve collaboration with the Exploration & Resource Definition teams regarding relevant surface operations.
About you:
The ideal candidate will possess some previous experience as working as a pit technician, with preference being gold operations. However, more importantly, character attributes of motivated, responsible, self-driven team player individuals will be highly regarded. Recent geology graduates wanting to commence their career within the mining industry or other mature responsible individuals are recommended to apply.

- Experience in geological mining operations with at least 1 year in an open pit environment.
- Demonstrated keen attention to detail and proactiveness.
- Active communicator.
- Committed attitude to safe systems of work.
- Diligent presentation of administrative task.
- Right to work and reside in Australia.
- Current Western Australia driver’s licence.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment medical, drug & alcohol and police clearance tests.
- Open pit gold mining experience - desirable
- Knowledge of open pit and exploration style RC drilling and associated sampling – desirable
Duties and Responsibilities will include:
- Supporting the Senior and Open Pit Geologist regarding on ground daily operations of the open pits.
- This can include, but is not limited to:
- Completing ore mark ups.
- Observation of digging operation with applicable recording and communication when required.
- Completing sampling tasks and associated data entry.
- Assisting the Geology Department meets its responsibility to provides high quality technical services to the Mining, Environmental and Processing Departments.
- Reporting of safety observations, including hazards and interactions.

- Quarterly Site production bonus consisting of 50% site wide safe production achievements and 50% personal KPI performance
- Quarterly Departmental Management Discretionary bonus, consisting of awards of $500 increments up to $2,500 for when sustained effort over and above normal operations is recognised
- Quarterly Business Improvement Bonus, consisting of an award up to $25,000 to an individual or group of individuals, decided by the management team panel for ideas that contribute significantly to the operation of the business.
