Barto Gold is a privately owned Australian gold explorer, developer, and producer who has been operating since 2009 and is focused on gold exploration and production in Western Australia. The company currently has a plan to develop into a mid-tier gold producer with an active growth strategy in place towards achieving that goal. With its flagship project located at Marvel Loch in Western Australia, the company holds a tenement package in excess of 1,400km2 with significant exploration investment, 3 operating mines and more in the immediate future.
Reporting to the Health & Safety Manager, the role is responsible for contributing to the health, safety and wellbeing of all Barto Gold employees and contractors by providing health and safety advice, support and guidance across the site including coordinating occupational hygiene requirements and conducting sampling, field observations and reporting as required. This will be a permanent role on an 8/6 roster, BIBO from Perth.
Duties and Responsibilities will include:
- Adhere to all safety and environmental systems, policies, and procedures to maintain a safe working environment for yourself and others
- Assist with the development and manage a comprehensive Occupational Health and Safety management system including critical systems of work to meet statutory and legislative requirements and support the corporate Barto HST policy
- Assist with the Development and implementation of contractor management systems that includes audit processes for critical systems of work and ongoing management strategies
- Ensure all departmental documentation complies with document control procedures and is made readily accessible across site
- Provide support and technical guidance on risks, incident investigations and operational controls in accordance with industry guidelines
- Promote a positive safety culture which includes continuous improvement in HST strategies, initiatives, systems, and practices that will result in the optimisation of results
- Assist with the development of a safety leadership model that incorporates management accountability for regular inspections, audits and pro-active identification of hazards and risks
- Ensure efficient completion of prescribed occupational health monitoring and reporting
- Contribute to the achievement of H&S objectives and minimise risk exposure by assisting with the implementation of H&S plans, procedures and programs and reviewing compliance
- Attend daily pre-start meetings as required
- Assist with investigating and reporting accidents and incidents as required
- Attend regular safety meetings to promote safe work practices and a healthy and safe workplace
- Positive re-enforcement and communication of all safety related requirements
- Develop a culture of safety awareness and commitment by leading by example
About you:
The successful candidate will have around three years of experience as a Safety Advisor. Critical to your success in this role will be your ability to champion the protection of workers from hazardous agents that may affect their wellbeing on a mine site. Previous exposure to working with and a sound knowledge of mining operations will be highly regarded.
To be successful in this role you will possess the following skills and qualifications:
- Certificate IV or higher in Occupational Health and Safety
- Certificate IV Training and Assessment Minimum TAE40116 - Desirable
- 3+ years experience in a similar safety role
- Drug testing nationally accredited certification – Desirable
- ICAM Lead Investigation Training Statement of Attainment
- Computer literate with intermediate MS Outlook, Excel, Word, Access, and PowerPoint skills
- Sound understanding of Quality & HST Management Systems
- Current WA HR driver’s licence
- Sound Understanding of the WA WHS Act 2020 and the WA WHS (Mining) Regulation 2022
- Sound understanding of Safety Management System
- Ability to work autonomously with well-developed time management skills and prioritisations skills
