Barto Gold is an Australian Gold explorer, developer, and producer who has been operating since 2009 and is focused on gold exploration and production in Western Australia. The operation consists of a 1.8Mtpa processing plant, three active underground mines, three active open pit mines and new mines planned to start in 2026 as part of the companies 5-year plan and a vision to reach 150,000oz/pa by 2028

 

We are currently seeking a Health and Safety Trainer – Processing to join our operation at Southern Cross. This permanent site-based role will focus on ensuring that processing personnel receive high-quality training aligned with industry best practices, site-specific requirements and regulatory compliance.

 

About the Role

Reporting to the HST Manager, the Health and Safety Trainer – Processing will be responsible for developing, coordinating and delivering training programs tailored to the processing department. This includes overseeing competency-based training, inductions, verification of competency (VOC) assessments and compliance with statutory training requirements.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

Training & Development:

  • Develop, implement and deliver processing-related safety training programs for site personnel.
  • Conduct training needs analysis (TNA) in collaboration with processing and safety teams.
  • Facilitate on-the-job coaching, classroom training and practical assessments to ensure workforce competency.
  • Maintain training records and ensure personnel meet compliance requirements.

 

Safety & Compliance:

  • Ensure all processing personnel meet regulatory and site-specific safety training requirements.
  • Conduct verification of competency (VOC) assessments and periodic refresher training.
  • Assist with the development and revision of safe systems and training packages.
  • Promote a strong safety culture through active engagement and reinforcement of safety standards.

 

Stakeholder Engagement & Reporting:

  • Work closely with the Processing and HST teams to ensure training aligns with operational and safety needs.
  • Maintain accurate training records, competency matrices and reporting databases.
  • Provide regular reports on training effectiveness and compliance status.

 

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

 

Experience & Industry Knowledge

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience working in gold processing operations (CIL plant, crushing circuits).
  • Strong understanding of processing plant equipment and safety procedures.

 

Qualifications

  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40116) – Essential.
  • Certificate IV or higher in Occupational Health and Safety – Preferred.
  • Senior First Aid Certificate – Advantageous.
  • Current WA Manual Driver’s Licence.

 

Skills & Competencies

  • Experience delivering training in both one-on-one and group environments.
  • Strong knowledge of Mine Safety and Inspection Act & Regulations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Learning Management Systems (LMS) and database management.
  • Ability to engage and influence personnel across all levels of the organisation.
