About the Role

Reporting to the Commercial Superintendent, the Category Specialist will partner with various business units in Barto Gold Mining (Barto), to manage and support the delivery of high-quality procurement and contract management services.  With support from the Commercial Superintendent, this role will be developing and deliver of end-to-end procurement category strategies that meet the business and commercial needs of each business unit and ensure these activities are aligned with the broader procurement strategies of Barto.

This position is Perth‑based, with monthly site visits (or as operationally required) on a 4:3 roster.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform business partnering activities to identify key areas of addressable spend that are planned over a 12-month to 24-month timeframe that will require support through tendering or contract management.
  • Develop category strategies using internal and external information to recommend strategic approaches to key categories of spend that are identified as providing value to Barto through savings and delivery/quality efficiencies.
  • Manage and support the delivery of high-quality sourcing events, including preparation of tender documentation, conducting tender evaluations, clarifications, negotiation processes, providing feedback on tenders, managing the approvals process, preparation of contract documents, and handover support to business unit contract managers.
  • Support stakeholders with the delivery of high-quality contract management, including support with monitoring of contractor performance and management of contract process such as variations, payments, extension of time and other claims, and Practical and Final Completion.
  • Provide ongoing procurement advice to internal stakeholders and business unit contract managers as required and assist in building procurement knowledge and capabilities within these teams
  • Support the management of sourcing and contract data in Procurement systems including the Commercial pipeline
  • Work with the Commercial Superintendent in the delivery of spend reporting to drive data reporting and insights analysis to business unit leadership teams and contract managers regarding spending activity and utilisation of existing supplier contracts.
  • Identify, implement, and track value delivery within the Commercial pipeline for sourcing events and in identifying efficiencies in contract delivery as a part of supplier management.
  • Work with stakeholders to assess spend requirements against existing contracts for spend compliance improvements
  • Assist the Commercial Superintendent in developing and implementing business improvement projects and supply chain initiatives

About You

You will bring category sourcing experience within mining or a similar industrial environment.   You are hands-on, detail-driven, and passionate about developing teams and improving systems.

Essential Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience leading end-to-end sourcing activities.
  • Strong analytical capability to support category strategies, commercial pipelines and sourcing decisions.
  • Well-developed stakeholder engagement and business partnering skills, with the ability to deliver commercial outcomes across the business.
  • Proven negotiation skills in dealing with suppliers and external stakeholders.
  • Experience developing and implementing category and sourcing strategies.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and manage effective supplier relationships.
  • A minimum of 3–5 years’ experience in a similar role within the mining or broader industrial sector.
  • Strong commercial and financial analysis skills, including tender evaluation, benchmarking and cost analysis.
  • High attention to detail, with the ability to maintain accuracy in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and respond effectively to changing operational requirements.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Confident presenting insights and recommendations to management.
  • Strong Microsoft Word skills, with experience preparing contracts and commercial documentation.
  • Previous experience within the mining sector will be highly regarded

 

Desirable

  • Excellent Microsoft word Experience in working with SAP S/4 Hana - Fiori
  • Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP)
  • Exposure to data analytics dashboard reporting tools (eg. PowerBI)
  • Batchelor degree in business, commerce or law
